WELCOME

The initiative to found an ASSOCIATION OF CATHOLIC UNIVERSITIES AND HIGHER INSTITUTES OF AFRICA AND MADAGASCAR (ACUHIAM) goes back to the first meeting of Catholic Institutes in Africa, which took place in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) from 2nd to 6th October 1989, with the help of the Missiological Institute, MISSlO-Aachen (Federal Republic of Germany).

The Founding Members are:

  • Les Facultés Catholiques de Kinshasa (F.C.K.) 1987
  • L'Université Catholique de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (U.C.A.O.) 1968
  • The Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA) 1981
  • The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) 1984
  • L'Université Catholique de l'Afrique Centrale (UCAC) 1991

In the service of the integral promotion of humankind and for the needs of the churches and societies of Africa, these institutes want to contribute to their development as qualified tools of evangelization. It appeared useful and urgent to promote collaboration among these institutes, to organize common action and to define their contribution to the general task of Higher Education in Africa and Madagascar.

In this context, the text of reference of the Association is "Ex Corde Ecclesiae", without forgetting "Sapientia Christiana" for the Ecclesiastical Faculties.
